Automated Sample Storage in Europe’s Largest Screening Network for Chemical Biology
EU-OPENSCREEN operates a publicly accessible database containing a unique collection of chemical substances. With more than 20 connected high-throughput screening and chemistry facilities at partner sites across ten European countries, EU-OPENSCREEN provides researchers with access to leading technologies to explore and develop their own bioactive compounds.
Process of Automated Sample Storage
For the highly complex process of automated storage of substances in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at –20 °C, LVL SAFE® 2D Tubes and Racks from LVL technologies are used—together with the LVL SAFE® 8-channel and 96-channel Capper/Decapper.
Thanks to the high quality and tight sealing of the tubes, the reliable readability of the codes, and excellent compatibility with automated systems, a smooth workflow is ensured. More than 100,000 samples have already been stored in LVL SAFE® 2D Tubes.
Synergy of Chemical Expertise and Biomedicine
Biologically active compounds are used in numerous fields, including pharmaceuticals, crop protection, cosmetics, the food industry, and environmental protection. A key technology for discovering new bioactive substances is high-throughput screening of large compound libraries.
EU-OPENSCREEN is a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) focused on chemical biology and the early identification of bioactive compounds. Its goal is to provide scientists in Europe with access to individually selected compounds for scientific studies and experiments.
The scope ranges from transferring thousands of substances at fixed concentrations to the detailed provision of individual compounds at variable dosages for subsequent development steps. Bioassays to assess biological activity are also conducted.
